ATCEMS said two children and two adults have been taken to separate hospitals.
AUSTIN, Texas — One person is dead and at least four others are injured after a vehicle drove into the emergency room at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center on Tuesday evening around 5:38 p.m.
Austin-Travis County EMS said four people have been transported to different hospitals. As of around 6 p.m., medics were conducting CPR on one adult patient.
In an update around 6:30 p.m., ATCEMS said two children and one adult were taken to Dell Children's Medical Center. One of the children had potentially serious injuries, while the other child and the adult had non-life-threatening injuries. A second adult was taken to Round Rock Medical Center with potentially serious injuries.
Austin officials believe the incident appears to be an accident, with a motorist driving into the ER. There are no indications that the crash was an intentional act, a top city official told KVUE's Tony Plohetski preliminarily.
The Austin Fire Department hazmat task force is on the scene, as well as ATCEMS and the Austin Police Department. ATCEMS has eight ambulances, four commanders, a designated medical officer, three medical directors, two PAs, three community health paramedics, two division chiefs and a PIO on the scene.
APD said there is no threat to the public.
AFD said a transportation corridor was being set up and crews will need additional room for vehicles and apparatus to mobilize. The public has been asked to avoid the area.
Gov. Greg Abbott pledged the state's support in a statement on social media on Tuesday night:
"I’ve spoken with Mayor Watson about the tragic accident at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center & offered Texas’ full support. State personnel are working closely with local officials to ensure Austin has no unmet needs. Cecilia & I pray for the victims & their loved ones," the governor said.
